The Central Transformations

In my studies of consciousness, one of the concepts I’ve encountered is the idea that our mind, body, and spirit each go through a transformation as they develop. I’d like to share those transformations with you, as I’ve learned them.
The Transformation of the Mind
The main way that the mind is transformed, as I currently understand it, is this:
- Events happen to us in our environment.
- We experience those events through our own biases and filters.
- We make meaning of, and tell ourselves stories about, those events and experiences.
This is the primary way by which we make sense of the world and make meaning from our lives. This is how we write and tell the story, to ourselves and others, of who we are.
The Transformation of the Body
The body is the vehicle of emotion, of the subconscious, and of the deeper knowledge of ourselves. The transformation of this aspect of ourselves takes place through processes like meditation in which the rational mind steps aside and we journey through our subconscious. Then:
- We realize that we are all energetically connected with all beings through our participation in this great mystery.
- We understand the truth that, because of this connectedness, actions we take have an effect not only on ourselves, but on every other being in that web.
- We recognize that we are energetically bound by our past actions, and that their impacts cannot be changed. Through this recognition, we feel compassion for ourselves, and, as we begin to understand that our circumstances are all the same, feel compassion for others.
This is the way in which we find compassion, calmness, and our inner truth. It is the way in which we prepare to release identification with the ego. It is how we achieve inner balance.
The Transformation of the Spirit
Our spirit is our connection to universal or divine consciousness. My understanding of the transformation of spirit is that, in altered states of conscious:
- We experience direct connection with the divine, and the peace, calm, healing, openness, and freedom that it engenders.
- We accept and surrender to our deepest, universal fears, while allowing them to melt, and for ourselves to be soothed in our experience of the divine. We reflect this transcendent experience back to our conscious mind in the form of stories and myths.
- We not only experience ourselves as a transformed, liberated, and whole mind-body-spirit entity, but we experience ourselves, and all beings, as parts of a single entity radiating love and light.
This is the way in which we find healing and unity, and prepare to transcend individual consciousness.
Through the transformations of mind, body, and spirit, we experience oneness.
